What you can expect from us

to Respect and maintain the security of your property

Keeping you and your property safe is important to us. While we work in your home, we don’t allow anyone in unless you have told us to expect them nor do we answer the phone or tell callers where you are. Keys and alarm codes are held by a designated key holder and only for the duration of the project.

We won’t disconnect alarm sensors during the project unless you advise otherwise.

to conduct ourselves professionally and courteously

Whilst on site all members of The Juniper Brush team:

  • Will keep noise to a minimum including the use of radios
  • Will not use inappropriate or offensive language
  • Will maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Will at all times ensure the safety and security of you and your property

To take care and protect the area where we work

Depending on where we’re decorating and the type of flooring, we use different ways to protect your home or business premises. Below you’ll find our standard methods of protection but we’ll always suggest extra measures if required:

  • Plastic backed drop cloths
We use waterproof plastic backed drop cloths as our standard method of protection. We lay drop cloths at the beginning of a project or use them as temporary protection where needed.

  • Adhesive carpet/wood floor protector
Offering excellent levels of protection, we regularly use this in areas of high foot traffic or on larger projects. As a rule, we lay adhesive protector when we start work and it stays in place for the duration of the project. It is safe to walk on and will withstand heavy wear.

  • Fabric drapes & additional protective covering
Fabric drapes are used to cover large items of furniture not cleared from a room.

  • Heavy duty polythene sheeting
This is a highly practical solution to cover large units in areas such as kitchens. We reuse it as much as we can out of respect for the environment.

We also use parcel paper, felt, cling film and tape when required to wrap large, delicate, or unusual items for protection while we work.

Interior Projects

preparation of internal woodwork

Due to changes in environmental law, paint manufacturers have been required to reduce the amount of chemicals in their recipes for oil-based paint. Much more research has now gone into acrylic alternatives and these are now used as standard throughout the industry.

We have been using acrylic paint as our preferred covering for over a decade and can supply samples to help you choose the finish that is right for you.

Proper preparation is the key to any lasting finish. It only needs to be done once and there are no shortcuts. On a typical project, our preparation methods are as follows:

  • Sanding with an appropriate weight abrasive to create a key for the new paint
  • Removing dust and washing down with a mild detergent to get rid of grease
  • A stain block to prevent wood knots appearing
  • Using a range of specialist primers suitable for your project
  • Applying two coats of your chosen finish

Remedial work as part of the service

At The Juniper Brush we take pride in our attention to detail. As standard, we carry out any minor remedial work needed to achieve our high standard of finish:

  • Filling of cracks and repair of small areas of loose substrate
  • Caulking of joints between substrates (e.g. coving and walls, skirting and walls)
  • Repair of damage around sockets and light switches
  • Sanding back or removal of areas of rough plaster from previous alterations

We routinely carry a range of high quality fillers, caulk and bonding agents to achieve a high standard of lasting repair.

We will always check with you regarding drilled holes and/or previous fixing to be filled.

Large repairs or specialist work

Here at The Juniper Brush we are qualified and happy to offer cosmetic plastering, some specialist repairs and small scale tiling, click here to see our full list of services.

We've also built great relationships with a team of trusted professionals and can arrange for work to be undertaken in conjunction with your decorating project. As experienced project managers, we can oversee large works from start to finish. If this is something that might be helpful, please get in touch with Laura to discuss your needs.

Keeping the work area clean and tidy

At the end of each working day, we will leave the work area and access route safe, clean and tidy. When we start the project, we will make specific arrangements with you about storing equipment on site, to fit in with your needs, welfare and safety.

We will remove any rubbish generated by the decorating project (wallpaper, etc) and dispose of this in accordance with COSHH regulations published at www.hse.gov.uk.

Cleaning of equipment

We don’t clean our equipment in your home/premises unless we’ve identified and agreed a designated area with you.

We dispose of dirty water via the storm drains.

On completion of a project, you can expect us to:

  • Remove all protection
  • Take away all equipment and materials
  • Recycle empty paint cans and product packaging where possible or dispose of them in accordance with COSHH regulations
  • Leave any remaining paint with you or recycle it through local charities
  • Make sure the work area and access route are left in a clean and tidy condition ready for furniture to be put back.
  • Provide a clear invoice for works completed

Exterior Projects

external work

While we’ve built up a great reputation for transforming the inside of your home, we also take care of those outside jobs:

  • Masonry repairs
  • Painting windows
  • Rotten wood
  • Rusting metal
  • Painting render
  • Summer houses
  • Maintenance

As exterior work is so weather dependent, we have limited availability from June through to September. Therefore, please get in touch in plenty of time to discuss your requirements. We work closely with various scaffold companies and can organise safe access where required.

Our Environmental Commitment

DECORATING DOESN’T HAVE TO COST THE EARTH

At The Juniper Brush, we are committed to reducing the impact of decorating on the environment:

  • We recycle wherever possible
  • We always dispose of items in accordance with COSHH regulations
  • We use recycled cardboard paint trays and kettles that can be re-used and composted when they reach the end of their usable life.
  • We use latex roller covers to minimise our use of plastic wrap and water wastage
  • We maintain all of our brushes and rollers to a high standard so we are able to reuse our kit until the very end of its lifespan
  • We continually research new products and update our product knowledge
  • We donate unused and unwanted paint to local charities

How you can help us

We are happy to move furniture and take care of any heavy lifting. It is always very helpful if you can move smaller items, like books and ornaments, out of the area to be decorated.

In light of GDPR, we take great care of all the information you give to us. You can be reassured that we erase all security details and alarm codes at the end of a project. All we retain is your name, address and contact details so that we can ask you for feedback and get in touch in the future.

When we give you a quote, this remains valid for 14 days. This is also true of our availability so please let us know as soon as you can whether you would like to go ahead with the project so that we can book you in.
